1. Chamber of Commerce• Is the company properly established/registered?
2. Fiscal authority• Who are the Directors?
• Do we have any public access to fiscal records/tax returns etc.?
3. Asset/security registries• Have assets/contracts/cash flows been formally pledged/charged as security
4. Credit/trade reference agencies• Has the company’s rating been changed recently?
• Is there any history/evidence of payment disputes/delays/defaults?
5. Trade and other creditors• CARE – do not alert other creditors to problems they are not aware of
• If possible check payment history/trend
• Do supply contracts contain retention of title rights?
6. Customers and other debtors• CARE – do not alert important clients to problems they are not aware of
• If possible check quality/service/delivery/performance information
7. Industry (branch) advisors• Compare company performance against that of the competition
• Understand industry dynamics/drivers
• Determine company position in the industry/market
8. Auditors/accountants• Have the auditors changed recently?
9. Stock brokers/investment banks• Have brokers prepared recent reports on the client or the industry/market?
10. Press/media• Check recent press articles in national/local press
• Are there publications specific to the industry which could be helpful?
• Treat press reports with caution and always look to verify information before taking action
11. Rating Agencies• For larger clients, have the rating agencies changed their rating/outlook?
• Have the rating agencies produced any industry/market reports?
